Karma - The Divine Law or the Universal law

8/23/2016

Picture
Vanakam to all divine soul,

Law of Karma is a  very important law that we need to understand clearly. What is it and how it works in our daily life.

Many complain, why this is happening to me? What did I do to deserve what I am going through? Why I am suffering and nothing good is happening to me? Why is God being unfair and cruel to me? Is God a loving person? Etc etc etc. I have heard these and other similar words from people of all walks of life and all ages.  Many times what ever that the suffering that we go through which we the complain is, is our the karma.

First understanding is that the Law of karma is law of action - reaction. Every action that we put into the world, either physically or mentally or emotionally comes back to us in a form of reaction, that we experience in our life. It is like planting a seed, the seed will take time and grow slowly until it become a matured tree where it starts to fruit and the fruit are the results or the reaction that we experience in our life.

The world is a great platform created by God so that the law of karma can take place and been implemented. The activities are the experiences that every single soul goes through. The experiences could be pain, suffering, agony, joy, happiness or something else.

We must understand in a deeper level that every single experiences that we go through that seems to be very bad that we complain all the time, or good experiences that we never talk about it, are only experiences. They are neither good or bad . They are our great teacher,  to teach us what to do or what not to do and help us to move on to the next level of progression. The experiences helps us to study and learn. The experiences also " purifies" us and mature gradually.

It is very easy to blame others for what that is happening to us. It is also easy for us to criticize the people around us, the environment , the leaders, the country for what is happening to us. That shows your foolishness. That shows your weakness too.  Be courageous  enough to accept what you are going through as  your own creation and face it gracefully and learn from it. That shows your strength.

In conclusion, stop complain and blaming others for whatever that you are going through in your life and accept and face it gracefully for God is the life of your life and He is there for you to uplift and help your to move forward.

We will talk about how to reduce our karma, precautions and types of karma in our upcoming articles.

The above write up is based on the teachings of Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami of Kauai Aadheenam , USA  (1927 to 2001 )

Birth , Death and Rebirth

8/15/2016

Picture
Vanakam and blessed morning to all Divine Soul,
Recently many forwarded messages on WhatsApp groups that show where accidents happened and people died. Also quite a number of people expressing their desires to commit suicide and also quite number of them committed suicide due to relationship, financial and other reasons.
First we must understand the basics that is who we are really.  Are we the name that we carry ourself  Siva, Muthu, Devi, Vani etc ? Are we the title that we carry Dr, Profesor, Dato, Datuk Seri , Tan Sri etc? Are we the position that we hold in the company Manager, General Manager, Director etc? Are we the owner of the company, society, organization etc ? All the questions above and the positions and titles are legitimate as long as we are alive. When we are dead, everything becomes null and void. What matters, what you carry to the next birth is your deeds, good and bad, that is the bank balance debit and credit that matters.
So who are we actually? The true You is that You are the Atma, the soul,  divine being with divine light that came from God and are on the journey going back to God and which never dies. What dies is the physical body which forms the sheath or the layer for the soul which helps in the evolution of the soul in this physical world which is called Bhuloka. When we die, we leave the physical body and the soul with other bodies astral and: mental body continue to live in the second world Devaloka.
The second point is birth death and rebirth are the natural law of the universal or God. The soul will reincarnate to go through it's suitcase of karmas that was brought with them to this world. Once they have fulfilled the karmas, the soul will leave the physical body which we call death. It continues it's journey in the inner world. If the suitcase of karma that we carried this world is not settled due to our action of committing suicide our suitcase karmas are " back logged" and soul' s evolution is also back logged. Remember that our souls  have taken thousands of births to evolve towards God. Only through the process of birth death and rebirth that the soul can attain maturity and self realization or God realization. We must understand this and teach to ourselves and our kids too that birth and death are very natural and it's a happy occasion.
Don't get upset when someone in your family members, relatives or friends died due to natural disaster, terminal illness etc. Accept it.Of course you will miss them and you will be sad that they are not a part of your life anymore, grief due to changes in our lives is a natural response and you need to give yourself time to grieve for them and for yourself and the changes their leaving will cause for you. However they have only moved away they still love you and you will see them again in a different form or a different body. Those who know that they are dying have a great gift they can take this chance to resolve all the misunderstandings and hurt  feelings with others and forgive them and to gain forgiveness for their past actions. This will help resolve many of the karmas you created in your life.
Hoping that the above information enlighten all of you.
Om Santhi. Om Namasivaya.

Varalakshmi Viratam - August 12, 2016

8/11/2016

Picture
Varalakshmi Puja is observed by married women in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other parts of South India. Varalakshmi Puja 2016 date is August 12. Goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity – is worshipped on the day. Varamahalakshmi literally means the boon granting goddess.

The Friday before the Full Moon, or Pournami day, of Tamil Month Aadi is chosen to perform Varalakshmi Puja. The corresponding month in the Kannada, Marathi and Telugu Calendar is the Shravan month.

Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on Varalakshmi Vrata day is equivalent to worshippingAshtalaksmi – the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure, and Strength.

The importance of Varalakshmi Puja is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. It is believed that importance of Varalakshmi Puja was narrated to Goddess Parvati by Lord Shiva.

Goddess Parvati wanted to know about a Vrata that is highly beneficial to a woman, which will help her lead a happy and prosperous life on earth. Lord Shiva then mentioned about the Varamahalakshmi Vratam.
How to perform Varalakshmi Puja?

Varalakshmi Puja or Varalakshmi Vratham is an important ritual observed by married women in South India and Maharashtra for the prosperity and welfare of their families. The date of Varalakshmi Vratham in 2016 is August 12. Varalakshmi Puja falls on a Friday in the month of August and the preparations for the puja begin on Thursday. All the necessary items needed for the pooja are collected by Thursday evening.

People wake up early in the morning on Friday and take a bath. Traditionally speaking the waking up time for the puja is the brahma muhurtham. Then the designated puja area and house is cleaned well and a beautiful ‘kolam’ or rangoli is drawn on the intended place of puja.

Picture
Next is the preparation of the ‘kalasham or kalash.’ A bronze or silver pot is selected and is cleaned thoroughly and a swastika symbol is drawn and is smeared with sandalwood paste. The kalasham pot is filled with raw rice or water, coins, a single whole lime, five different kinds of leaves, and beetle nut. The items used to fill the kalasham vary from region to region and includes turmeric, comb, mirror, small black bangles and black beads.

The kalasham up to the neck is sometimes covered with a cloth and mango leaves are placed on the mouth of the kalasham. Finally, a coconut smeared with turmeric is used to close the mouth of the kalasham. To this coconut, an image of Goddess Lakshmi is fixed or the image of Lakshmi is drawn using turmeric powder. Now the kalasham symbolically represents Goddess Lakshmi.

In some areas, women place a mirror behind the kalasham. Today, there are also specially made Varalakshmi pots available in the market.

The kalasham is usually placed on a bed of rice. First Lord Ganesha is worshipped. Then begins the Varalakshmi Puja. The puja consists of singing slokas dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi like the Lakshmi Sahasranamam. Arati is performed on the kalasham. Different types of sweets are offered. Some people offer pongal. In some areas women tie yellow thread on their hands.

The woman who is observing the Varalakshmi Puja abstains from eating certain kind of food and this varies from region to region. In some regions, women fast till the puja period.

Thamboolam – betel leaf, areca nut and slaked lime – is offered to women in the locality and in the evening an arati is offered.

The next day, that is on Saturday, after taking a bath the kalasham is dismantled and the water in the kalasham is sprinkled in the house. If rice is used then it is mixed with rice in the house.

There are no hard and fast rules in performing the Varalakshmi Puja and you can be flexible on the puja items. Even a simple prayer will please Goddess Lakshmi

Sani Pradosham

Significance Of Sani Pradosham
According to Hindu mythology, the day Saturday is dedicated to Lord Shani or Shaneeshwara, one of the Navagrahas or nine celestial gods. Lord Shani or Sani has always been related with troubles and ill effects. Moreover, all Hindus believing in astrology dread the effects of Shani over a person’s life. To overcome and avoid the adversities and misfortunes of Lord Shani, people observe fasts on Shanivar or Saturday. And when a Pradosh falls on a Saturday, it is termed as Shani Pradosh. To overcome the bad influence of Shani, devotees observe a vrat on Shani Pradosh and offering prayers to Shiva during the day.

The fast is observed from sunrise to sunset and ends with the evening puja. Since the name Pradosha literally means ‘a period just before sunset and after sunset’, the Pradosha period for prayers is from 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset. While most of the devotees prefer observing a strict fast by refraining from food and drinking only water, some devotees practice a partial fast by consuming fruits and water. Nonetheless, the strictness of the fast totally depends on the devotees. Even after offering the evening prayers, devotees eat only the Prasad and recommence with eating proper food only in the next morning. During the day of the fast, devotees visit Shiva temples and offer pujas and chant mantras.

Holi Splashed with Colors of Friendship

3/31/2013

Picture

Holi is wild and raucous, a frolic of friendly playfulness. During Holi, India's streets are overtaken by crowds awash with colored powder. Not only clothes, but faces, arms and hair are smeared and sprayed with every color of the rainbow. People sing, dance, play, hug each other and smile with such child-like joy that it makes one wonder where so much happiness comes from! No religious festival in the world compares to Holi in terms of engaging young and old alike. It is a celebration of love, forgiveness, hope and just plain fun.

What is Holi?Holi is a community's exuberant expression of joy to welcome the warmth of spring. In a reflection of nature's abundance, Hindus celebrate with bursts of color, camaraderie and shared abandon. It begins on Purnima, full moon day, in the Hindu month of Phalguni (February/March) and lasts for as long as 16 days.

How does the festival start? Many communities create a central bonfire on the night before Holi, starting with kindling and logs and adding organic debris as they clean up their property. The fire symbolizes the torching of negative or troublesome experiences and memories. An effigy of Holika, a demoness personifying negativity, is consigned to the flames, and freshly harvested barley and oats are offered. The embers are collected to light sacred fires, and the ashes are used to mark the forehead as a blessing.

When does the color fun begin? On the day of Holi, people celebrate by playing, dancing and running in the streets. Water pistols are filled with colored water and squirted on family, friends and strangers alike. Dye powders and water balloons are a big part of the play. The wise wear old clothes, usually white, in anticipation of the mess! Virtually anything goes, including ribald humor, practical jokes and sexual teasing--all excused with the saying, "Don't mind, it's Holi!" (Hindi: Bura na mano, Holi hai.) Men are at the playful mercy of women, who dance with them and even dress them in drag. Especially in North India, people celebrate with abandon, even splashing color on their homes as a prelude to the more sober custom of renewing the paint with shell-based white. Deities and images of ancestors are hand-painted and placed in beautiful altars. Dramatic events feature devotional songs and the retelling of the love epic of Radha and Krishna. Bonds are renewed, particularly among in-laws and the extended family. Etiquette on Holi requires that one accept all overtures with an open heart, burying grievances to begin relationships afresh. People of all walks of life mingle and greet, applying vermilion on each other's foreheads in an uninhibited exchange of goodwill.

What are the delicacies of this festival?Special sweet and savory treats including mathri, puran poli and vadai are made. Many communities make an intoxicating, cooling drink, called thandai, made of purified water, sugar, seeds of watermelon, muskmelon and lotus, along with nuts, cardamom, fennel, white pepper, saffron and rose petals.

Tidbits About HoliWhat is the meaning behind the bonfire? Love, positive values and goodness are celebrated on Holi. Their triumphs over divisiveness and negative forces have been reinforced in legends, such as that of Holika and her brother Prahlad. The famous king Hiranyakashipu had earned a boon that made him virtually indestructible. Blinded by this power, he thought he was God, the only being worthy of worship. His young son Prahlad was devoted to Lord Vishnu and refused to obey his father. Infuriated, the king devised the cruelest punishments. In one attempt, Prahlad's evil aunt Holika, who possessed the power to withstand fire, tricked him into climbing a burning pyre with her. Prahlad's love for true Divinity protected him from the flames. Holika burned while Prahlad lived. The bonfire of Holi is symbolic of this victory of good over evil.

How did the frolicking with color originate? Legend has it that Krishna noticed one day how much lighter Radha's complexion was than His own. His mother playfully suggested that He smear Radha's cheeks with color to make Her look like Him, which Krishna did. The strong-willed Radha gleefully retaliated, and a merry chaos ensued. Another legend has it that Krishna celebrated this festival with His friends and the gopis. They danced and frolicked, filling the air with color in a joyous welcome of spring.

Is this a romantic occasion? The festive dancing and camaraderie create the perfect environment for matrimonial alliances. Young people find mates, and families formally seal marital agreements during these days.

Making Safe,Natural ColorsDyes made of toxic chemicals are too often used during Holi. The food-based recipes below, along with edible food coloring, offer safe alternatives for all colors.

Red: Soak red pomegranate rind in water overnight. A pinch of edible gypsum mixed with turmeric powder in water gives a bright red. Soak red hibiscus flowers in water overnight.

Yellow: Turmeric powder makes a terrific yellow.

Brown: Soak betel nut in water overnight and dilute as necessary. Or boil tea or coffee in water.

Purple: Boil blueberries in an iron vessel and let stand overnight.

Magenta: Slice or grate one beet root. Leave overnight in water. Dilute as needed for different shades.

Green: Puree spinach, coriander or mint leaves in water. Strain and use.

Fact & FictionFACT: Hindus worship and celebrate the Divine with unparalleled variety and fervor. Dance, song, prayer, meditation, processions, pilgrimage, bathing, painting, symbols and rituals are all valid ways of connecting with Divinity. This is living testimony to the existence of many paths within this ancient faith, all leading to God. Each person finds his own path among the many laid out by gurus and sages. To the Hindu, spiritual life is meant to be lived joyously, as Holi demonstrates.

FICTION: Hinduism is rich with stories of the Gods and their wives. Yet, on a deeper, philosophical level, it is widely regarded as a fiction that the Gods are married. The Supreme Being and the Gods are neither male nor female and are therefore not married.
